TV star Sharon Gless (Queer as Folk, Burn Notice) and gay Army Lt. Dan Choi, who recently was arrested for chaining himself to a White House fence during a "don't ask, don't tell'' protest, will be grand marshals of the April 17 Miami Beach Gay Pride parade.

"Dan is a good symbol for what is important, not only for our community but for the county. He speaks Arabic. Why would we discharge someone who speaks Arabic at this point?" says Miami Beach Gay Pride executive director Cindy Brown. "Sharon, of course, back in the Cagney and Lacey days, was a lesbian icon, even though she isn't a lesbian and they weren't lesbians in the show. All of us lesbians imagined that they were."

Gless lives on Fisher Island. "Not only is she supportive of our community, she's part of our community," Brown says.

The noon parade starts on Ocean Drive at Fifth Street. A festival continues between 10th and 14th streets.

Over the last several weeks, we’ve had a bunch of people write in and ask, “Is it possible to do a convention on a budget?” The answer is yes. We’ll show you how below. You can always upgrade (or for that matter downgrade) from our suggestion below. For the sake of our example, we are using the Creation Entertainment Official Twilight Convention , but most other convention companies have very similar plans, just read the fine print.

So figuring that a trip to the movies costs roughly $10.00 for the ticket and another $5.00 or so for your popcorn and soda combo. There is actually a way to get a day’s entertainment for about $10.00 more than your standard trip to the movies.

If you go to the convention on a Saturday or Sunday, you usually end up seeing three stars minimum do a Q & A, you get a Lexicon panel (sorry shameless self promotion), a Hillywood panel, chance to win trivia/costume contest prizes, and the ability to take as many pictures as you want of the celebrities onstage with your own camera, and you have access to the vendor room where you can drop more cash if you so choose.  All of this will run you $25.00, roughly $10.00 more than a trip to the movies.

Now let’s say you’re still on a budget but you want to upgrade a little. You can get an autograph with one of the actors in say your already purchased Twilight/New Moon Companion book so add $25. That brings you to $50.00 total.

Maybe you’re not into autographs, but you want a professional photo with you and an actor. That’s $40 to bring your total to $65.

Now let’s say you don’t care about professional photo ops or autographs, you just want to be able to take your own pictures and hear the actors talk, and you have all weekend. You can get the general admission weekend pass for $69. So you’ll get everything we described in our third paragraph plus more actors, panels, and trivia. And if you are dying for an autograph from your favorite actor, it brings you to $84.00.

So, there you have a couple of options all under $100 dollars, which granted is not cheap, but it does hopefully provide info to the folks asking. Like we said you can always upgrade from there if you want more like dances, personal meet and greets, preferential seating, etc.

Also one last item of note. Frequently on Twitter, because of the 140 character limit, people shorten the name of any Twilight convention to “twicon”.  Not a big deal, but it does and has caused some confusion because there was also a company that did a convention last year in Dallas that just went out of business called “twicon”. Creation Entertainment, HUB Productions, Twilight FanTrips, Eternal Twilight, etc. all have events that people sometimes shorten to “twicon” but these companies have never had any association with the shortly defunct TwiCon Partners LLC that did a convention last year in Dallas and was supposed to do two this year in Vegas and Toronto/Ottowa.

Plot:
When his brother is killed in battle, paraplegic Marine Jake Sully decides to take his place in a mission on the distant world of Pandora. Lionsgate has finally debut the first official trailer for Sylvester Stallone’s The Expendables starring one hell of a badass cast: Stallone, Jason Statham, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Randy Couture, Steve Austin, Randy Couture, Terry Crews, Mickey Rourke and Danny Trejo, too. I do think that they spoiled the two or three big cameos in this, but there’s no way this could be a hit without dropping the hint that this is Arnold’s first big screen appearance since 2004. The Expendables is both written and directed by legendary action actor and filmmaker Sylvester Stallone , who has also directed Paradise Alley, Rocky 2, 3, and 4, as well as the most recent Rambo movie. This is a Nu Image / Millennium Films production developed by Avi Lerner and Les Weldon. Lionsgate is bringing The Expendables to theaters starting on August 20th, 2010 later this year. We first featured a trailer for this back in October of last year but it got pulled and we’ve been waiting to see this real one since. Excited?

I'm a big fan of infographics, which have taken off in recent years thanks to the democratizing effects of the Internet and Photoshop.  I especially love it when infographics are used in nontraditional ways, which is exactly what Paul Copperwaite's Movie Charts, the book that showed up on my desk this morning, does.  With over one hundred sometimes easy-to-get, sometimes more eclectic references to popular movies, this is a nice coffee table book that your friends will laugh at as they look through it.  I scanned in some of my favorites below:

A few high quality photos have been released for Paul W.S. Anderson’s latest film, Resident Evil: Afterlife . It’s the fourth installment of the long running videogame based franchise that will once again have Milla Jovovich returning as Alice, the chemically engineered heroine fighting her way through a zombie infested world. Check her out in action…

The first images from the film debuted via MySpace and feature Jovovich’s Alice, Ali Later’s return as Claire, and Wentworth Miller as her brother Chris. After looking over these photos the one thing I have to say is, it looks like someone’s been playing the Resident Evil 5 videogame. There are definitely some characters that show up in the movie that also apparear in the game here.

In a world ravaged by a virus infection, turning its victims into the undead, Alive (Milla Jovovich), continues on her journey to find survivors and lead them to safety. Her deadly battle with the Umbrella Corporation reaches new heights, but Alice gets some unexpected help from an old friend. A new lead that promises a safe haven from the Undead leads them to Los Angeles, but when they arrive the city is overrun by thousands of Undead and Alice and her comrades are about to step into a deadly trap.

I stopped having hope for the RE franchise a long time ago, but some fans are still keeping the faith. I have to admit that the dynamic of having both Claire and Chris will be a great homage to the game since they completely nixed Jill Valentine after the second movie. If these photos aren’t enough for you, the film’s first trailer is expected to drop this Saturday at 2:15pm PST on MySpace Horror . Keep an eye out.

I’m sure you don’t need another reason to get excited about Iron Man 2, but it doesn’t hurt, now does it? In case you missed them, this week there were two new posters released for the movie, including a Whiplash-less poster and temperature-raising poster featuring Scarlett Johansson as Black Widow .

The first new Iron Man 2 item we have to share is a new viral website showcasing the fictional Stark Expo, a scientific “world-like fair” that Tony Stark’s father, Howard Stark, created in the 1960s. The mystery of the 1974 Expo is apparently a big part of the sequel’s plot.

The website called starkexpo2010.com has many treats for you to take a look at, including an interactive map, some viral videos (one of which is of Howard Stark), some artwork, and 20 awesome images showcasing different parts of the Expo.

You’ll have to head over there to see the videos and the interactive map, but we’ve included a fair amount of the images:
